Senior Congestion Analyst

Join us in this role where you’ll develop and maintain models and methodologies leveraged by the North America trading desk, the transmission team and others across the commercial organization to forecast and manage nodal pricing and congestion risks.

 

Welcome to Commercial Americas and Market Analytics
You’ll be part of Market Analytics where you, together with your colleagues, will work closely with the trading desk to provide input for models such to forecast nodal electricity price components to inform trading and investment decisions. You will work closely with the trading desk and provide direct input for trading/hedging decisions for CRR auctions, Day-Ahead/Real-Time and Point-to-Point congestion trading. As a team, we work closely with the transmission team to provide input to medium/long-term nodal pricing for congestion analysis and nodal price modeling to support investment decisions.

 

You’ll play an important role in:

  • leading development of nodal price modeling to enhance the decision making and competitiveness of US Trading and the Americas Commercial Organization
  • forecasting and analyzing fundamental congestion drivers (generation, load, outages etc.) and analyze congestion risks for the power trading desk
  • utilizing and enhancing production cost models and security-constrained optimal power flow models (Dayzer)
  • developing models, tools and techniques to monitor price patterns, load, congestion etc., to identify risks and develop trading strategies
  • partnering with trading teams to identify new congestion trading strategies
  • collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams including Trading, Risk, IT, Market and Revenue Analysis, Growth/Strategy, Commercial Structuring, and M&A teams.

 

To succeed in the role, you:

  • have preferably 3+ years of experience working in US power markets preferably on a power/congestion trading desk.
  • possess a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or another quantitative field e.g., computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics or related field
  • are analytical with the ability to provide precise and solid insights on congestion drivers, identify causes and conditions, structure action plans, and propose and explain to internal stakeholders
  • have experience in the market structure, transactions, and protocols of US power markets especially pertaining to price formation and congestion costs
  • possess knowledge of electricity markets such as nodal/zonal price formation and congestion cost drivers, FTR/CRR auctions, day-ahead and real-time markets
  • have experience with fundamental modeling in electricity markets and familiarity with production cost modeling tools such as DAYZER, PLEXOS, ENCOMPASS.
