Transmission/Interconnection Intern

Join us in this role where you’ll experience a 10-week immersive summer program designed to strengthen your development through tailored programming focused on three key aspects: exposure to our core business, vision-centred and collaborative experiential learning, and professional development.

 

Welcome to Onshore Project Execution
You’ll be part of Onshore Transmission team where you, together with your colleagues, will support Onshore development projects through their applicable interconnection processes. You will collaborate with experienced engineers on projects primarily situated within the eastern interconnect. Your responsibilities will include supporting projects in various stages, from greenfield developments to under-construction and completed assets. You will acquire essential skills and be tasked with performing critical analysis and tasks. Our team values frequent communication, project collaboration, and ensuring stakeholders are well-informed for decision-making.

 

You’ll play an important role in:

  • supporting greenfield development of prospective projects
  • supporting developed projects by completing tasks that are required for their interconnection process
  • support work by consultants by creating scopes of work, researching and providing documentation, and reviewing and summarizing results
  • helping other groups (Development, Engineering, M&A, Finance, etc.) that may need interconnection information for a project
  • researching topics that may affect different interconnection processes throughout a focused region

 

To succeed in the role, you:

  • should have a high-level understanding of the bulk electric transmission system, its components, and how generation gets to load
  • should have a high-level understanding of how different scenarios that occur on the transmission system (loss/addition of generation, loss/addition of a transmission lines, etc.) impact the reliability of the transmission system
  • may have a high-level understanding of generation interconnection processes and how the idea of a new renewable asset obtains a generation interconnection agreement
  • may have experience with power flow software such as PSSE, PowerGEM’s TARA, or PowerWorld
  • are a collaborator who looks forward to taking on new opportunities and challenges with a sense of urgency and enthusiasm
