Head Of Geotech Foundation Design

Imagine a future where you lead a highly skilled team, turning geotechnical expertise into strong foundations for the world’s largest offshore wind farms

Join us in this role where you’ll be part of our Foundations & Wind Turbines function as Head of Geotechnical Foundation Design. In this role, you’ll manage a talented team of geotechnical engineers and implement the department strategy supporting the wider Geoscience & Geotechnics department.

Welcome to Geotechnical Foundation Design
You’ll be part of the Geotechnical Foundation Design team where you, together with your colleagues, will work across markets and projects to design and optimise offshore wind farm foundations. The team consists of around ten specialists located across Europe and the US working closely together across time zones. The team is involved in all geotechnical aspects of designing and installing Ørsted’s offshore windfarm foundations, including (but not limited to) concept selection, detailed foundation design and foundation installation. The team also has a significant focus on innovation and R&D activities to support Ørsted’s goal of lowering the levelized cost of electricity. As a team, we collaborate openly, support each other, and share knowledge to deliver safe and innovative engineering solutions.

You’ll play an important role in:

  • planning and prioritising the team’s workload, ensuring work is appropriately resourced and aligned with department and project needs
  • developing technology and competencies within the department to support current and future business needs
  • effectively managing diverse internal and external stakeholders while fostering strong engagement and motivation
  • fostering a culture of learning and development within the team, providing coaching and mentorship to ensure high team performance and to enable individuals to reach their full potential.

To succeed in the role, you:

  • have an educational background in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably geotechnical engineering
  • bring solid technical understanding of geotechnical foundation design, enabling effective planning and prioritisation
  • have experience in the offshore wind industry as a geotechnical engineer undertaking design tasks will be considered an advantage but is not a prerequisite
  • have good interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to quickly build effective relationships with key stakeholders.
  • proven experience in in leading and managing technical global teams in a strong matrix organisation
  • have experience with change management

Maybe you’ve read the above and can see you have some transferable skills, even though they don’t quite match all the points. If you think you can bring something to the team, we still encourage you to apply.
