Risk Manager / Senior Risk Manager

Join us in this role where you will learn our risk frameworks, contribute to high-quality analytics, help ensure accurate and transparent risk representation, and progressively take ownership of deep dives and deliveries. This role is based in Denmark, and you will work from our Gentofte office.

Welcome to the Group Revenue Risk
You’ll be part of the newly established Oversight & Advisory team within Group Revenue Risk. Together with your colleagues, you will help safeguard Ørsted’s financial exposure to fluctuations in energy prices and production volumes across our operating assets (wind farms, solar PV, and power plants) through structured analysis and deep dives into risk drivers. We are building a best-in-class 2nd line of defense function, setting the standard for a strong risk culture, ensuring all material risks are identified, measured, and monitored—and you will grow into a key contributor on this journey.

We partner closely with Finance, Portfolio Hedging, Trading, and 1st line risk teams owning and managing the risks. To effectively support and challenge 1st line risk owners, we learn the underlying risks and how the 1st line manages these. This includes understanding trading and hedging strategies, price and volume dynamics, non-linear payoff structures and embedded optionality in our assets and contracts and assessing the impact against Ørsted’s risk appetite and limits. We quantify risk rigorously and translate analyses into clear, action-oriented recommendations for decision-making.

You’ll play an important role in:

  • supporting the design and maintenance of the 2nd line risk framework, including risk appetite statements and risk limit hierarchy across material revenue risks.
  • analyzing development in risk measures such as Revenue at Risk (RaR), Value at Risk (VaR), and firm-wide scenario stress testing; running sensitivities, back-tests, and documenting assumptions.
  • preparing clear, concise, decision-ready risk reporting and dashboards for stakeholders and governance forums.
  • assisting in building and validating asset/portfolio risk models and ensuring data quality and reproducibility.
  • providing guidance to 1st line risk owners—spotting potential shortcomings in assumptions, models, data and hedging strategies.
  • learning trading and hedging strategies, understanding price/volume dynamics and optionality, and progressively taking ownership of well-defined deep dives and deliverables.
  • collaborating closely with Finance, Trading, and risk teams, managing priorities to meet team commitments and escalating issues when needed.
  • contributing to a high-performance, supportive, and inclusive team culture.

To succeed in the role, you:

Risk Manager (typically 0–3 years’ experience):

  • hold an advanced quantitative degree (Master’s or PhD) in economics, mathematics, statistics, physics, or quantitative finance
  • bring relevant experience from internships, student roles, or up to a few years in risk/analytics within energy or financial markets.
  • are familiar with core market risk concepts (VaR/ES, stress/scenario testing, risk decomposition) and have a basic understanding of derivatives and how trading transfers risk between market, collateral, and credit risk.
  • have practical skills in data analysis and modeling (e.g., Python or R, SQL, and advanced Excel); experience with visualization/reporting tools is a plus.
  • communicate clearly to diverse stakeholders; can translate analysis into actionable insights and are willing to challenge assumptions respectfully.
  • learn quickly, operate with a structured approach, and take ownership of your tasks.

Senior Risk Manager (typically 3–5 years’ experience)

  • bring 3–5 years of relevant experience in market risk within energy or financial markets and can independently run defined workstreams.
  • have hands-on experience with VaR/ES, stress/scenario design, and portfolio risk decomposition, non-linear payoff structures and optionality.
  • are familiar with model governance and validation best practices, including documentation.
  • confidently provide independent challenge to 1st line risk owners and produce decision-ready reporting for senior stakeholders.

Maybe you’ve read the above and can see you have some transferable skills, even though they don’t quite match all the points. If you think you can bring something to the team, we still encourage you to apply.
