Lead Risk Model Developer

Join us in this role where you will advance our risk metrics calculation engine, strengthen its resilience and performance, and expand its coverage and functionality. You will drive innovation, partner closely with stakeholders, and provide hands on technical leadership to ensure models are accurate, explainable and compliant.

Welcome to Group Risk
You will become a vital part of our Risk Models team within Group Risk where you, together with your colleagues, will develop and maintain models that calculate key risk metrics and support our second line risk organisation. As a Lead Risk Model Developer, you will bring expert model insights and help ensure robust monitoring and control of our risk landscape.

As a team, we prioritize knowledge sharing, learning from each other, and keeping an informal environment with room for fun and laughter.

You’ll play an important role in:

  • designing, building, and maintaining risk models, including stress testing and scenario analysis
  • enhancing model accuracy, explainability, efficiency, and performance in line with regulatory standards and industry best practices
  • advancing the risk metrics engine by improving resilience and scalability and broadening its coverage across commodity price, production and financial risks (inflation, interest rates and currency) to meet business needs
  • collaborating across Group Risk and stakeholders to translate requirements into fit-for-purpose solutions
  • providing hands-on technical leadership (code reviews, mentoring, troubleshooting), leveraging agentic AI pair programming to accelerate development and improve code quality
  • maintaining comprehensive, accessible documentation and ensuring compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.

To succeed in the role, you:

  • bring strong model-development expertise and production-grade Python coding skills, with experience delivering models in a professional setting
  • have experience in stress testing, scenario analysis, and broader risk management techniques
  • have at least 5+ years of experience in a financial institution
  • engage effectively with stakeholders and collaborate across diverse business functions
  • can translate complex technical concepts into clear insights for non-technical audiences
  • enjoy writing high-quality code and thrive in a role where coding is central to your impact.

Maybe you’ve read the above and can see you have some transferable skills, even though they don’t quite match all the points. If you think you can bring something to the team, we still encourage you to apply.
